Roswell UFO Festival - Preparing for Fun!

You can see the city buzzing, getting ready for the upcoming festivites!  Few, however. are as busy Reneé Roach the City of Roswell Marketing Director; and Keep Roswell Beautiful Coordinator.  Amazingly she is still spry and always takes time out to make sure I have what I need to write these articles.  Unfortunately there always is a "Grinch".  In this case one of the more popular hamburger places would not let me publish a picture of their UFO design until I received direct authorization from their "marketing and legal" department (wait about 2 months) which would arrive too late for the article.  I asked "what if" I were to just show it in an article, in a good light, and then wait to hear from them.  Really, the public views this item everyday!  They proceeded to tell me, in no uncertain terms, the legal action I would face, if I did so.  Well, no more burgers from those clowns!

I went to the Convention Center and my first encounter was with Ethan; a small boy of about 3 years old, who was at the front of the center busily talking to two alien statues .  He was loudly talking to these two statues, shaking his head up and down all while agreeing with them inaudibly!  Almost makes one wish they had a little boy again!  Seemed like a very serious conversation, but I still don't know what they talked about!

As I visited the center, I was overwhelmed with the amount of information there about Roswell, and New Mexico in general.  The staff was really knowledgeable on everything from history, to places, to events to geography about anywhere in New Mexico. Everything from  Roswell, to Carlsbad (where I am headed to next) to Albuquerque to Las Cruces and other cities non-UFO related.

I visited many of the vendors getting their booths ready. It had been a long day and while waiting for more vendors to get set up,  I just happened to fall asleep in the "make your own alien hear gear" room.  Bad mistake . . . .bad, bad, bad!  The ladies there thought they would have some fun with me and I woke up without my MUFON cap and instead found I was wearing an headgear apparatus which, made from aluminum, was designed to keep my thoughts from being read by extraterrestrials.  They told me they got the idea from the movie, "Signs".  I'm lucky my hands were in front of me or I may have found my face covered with makeup too!

I wanted to attend the Miss Roswell UFO Festival pageant, but rumor has it  that all but two of the contestants had been abducted.  I  can't substantiate this!  What a shame!  But think about it for a moment.  If this be true and the aliens are indeed abducting the beauty pageants, we should be seeing some good looking hybrid children on the way! 

The vendors!  I can't wait till the vendors have everything in place!  There is something for everyone!  T-shirts, jewelry, hats, crystal, stones, purses, alien posters, alien stones, shoes, flip-flops and much much more! 

A quick trip back for a shower and off to the preopening party and a GREAT dinner!  We hate and drank until we couldn't any more . . .that isn't saying much believe me!  Anyway, it has been a late night and I'm ready for the first day of festivities tomorrow!
