So it appears that a man has been arrested for indecent exposure while making coffee in the buff--in his own kitchen.
My personal inclination at this news is to roll my eyes, point out the control freaks for what they are once again, and be done with it. I've long since internalized my reasons why I feel this way, and it often seems pointless to go through them all again.
It's not pointless. There is a power in calling out the problems for what they are, and some people are scrupulously good at it. One such is JD Tuccille, the national Civil Liberties Examiner, and another is Wendy McElroy, who covers this topic with her typical measure here. Among her thoughts:
the woman was trespassing on Williamson's property -- she cut across his front yard -- yet no charges were brought against her. Nor was it asked 1) why she looked into the window of a neighbor while committing trespass, or 2) did she have to invade his property to see through the window.
and
the arrest came only after the policeman had checked with Commonwealth's Attorney's Office (Va.'s term for D.A.) and was "given the green light." This means the charge did not result from a rogue cop who acted like an idiot.
There's more; make sure to read her whole post. This is rational thinking that remains on target, and from everything I have seen it is a hallmark of McElroy's work. If you don't know about her already, check in from time to time.
In the meantime, flash the espresso machine at your own peril.
