There's some fantastic shows to close out October, starting Wednesday night with '60s British Invasion duo Chad & Jeremy at the B.B. King Blues Club (237 W. 42nd St. between Seventh and Eighth) at 8 P.M. for $30 - $35. Chad & Jeremy certainly never made the impact of the Beatles, Stones, or the Animals, but hits like "A Summer Song" and "Yesterday's Gone" have continued to endure.
Also Wednesday night, They Might Be Giants and Nada Surf will be acoustic sets at the Music Hall of Williamsburg (66 North 6th St. between Kent and Wythe Aves.) at 9 P.M. for $25; VIP tickets are available for $75. Acoustic sets are rare for either of these bands, making this an interesting show.
Motown legend Smokey Robinson will play the New Jersey Performing Arts Center at Prudential Hall (1 Center St. at the waterfront) in Newark at 8 P.M. on Wednesday night; tickets range from $28 - $112. This concert will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of New Jersey.
Ron Carter, a jazz bassist who's played on everyone's records from Miles Davis to A Tribe Called Quest, will play the Blue Note (131 W. 3rd St at Sixth Ave.) from Wednesday night through Sunday with shows at 8 and 10:30 P.M.; tickets are $20 - $30.
Thursday night, the 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll hall of Fame Concert series will feature Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Simon & Garfunkel, and Stevie Wonder at Madison Square Garden at 7:30 P.M.; tickets range from $80 - $2,500.
For a truly brutal heavy metal show, check out Mastodon and Dethlok at the Hammerstein Ballroom (Manhattan Center, 311 W. 34th St. between Eighth and Ninth) on Thursday and Friday night at 6:30 P.M.; tickets are an even $35.
Friday night, the 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concert series continues with U2, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, and Metallica at Madison Square Garden at 7:30 P.M.; again, tickets range from $80 - $2,500. An impressive concert series indeed.
Living Colour have their original line-up intact, they've released a new album ("Megaforce"), and will be playing the Highline Ballroom (431 W. 16th St. between Ninth and Tenth) on Friday night at 8 P.M.; tickets are $25 - $30.
Saturday night, or Halloween, Weezer will play the Hammerstein Ballroom (see address above) at 8 P.M. for $38.
Halloween's best show should be Deer Tick dressing up as the Sex Pistols for an all covers show that reportedly will also feature Sonic Youth. "Nevermind the Sex Pistols, Here's the Deer Ticks" will be at Brooklyn Bowl (61 Wythe Ave. between North 11th and 12th Sts.) on Halloween at 9 P.M. for a meager $5!
