The Denver Post has reported that the Nuggets are close to acquiring veteran forward Malik Allen from the Milwaukee Bucks. In the trade, agreed upon Tuesday afternoon and likely to become official by the end of the week, the Bucks would get Nuggets swingman Sonny Weems and forward Walter Sharpe.
Weems, whose best moments with the Nuggets usually occurred during his ram-rattling dunks in the layup line, is an athletic leaper who has yet to settle into a rhythm with his jump shot. Nuggets coach George Karl has also expressed uncertainty over Weems' mental game. Karl told the Post, "He's got the talent to play in the league. The question will be: does he have the mind to play in the league?"
Malik Allen is a true NBA journeyman, having played for seven different teams throughout his eight-year career. He has career averages of 5.4 points and 3 rebounds. He's a tough, cagey veteran but don't expect him to play key minutes down the stretch.
