Dahntay Jones is out the door, taking his defensive tenacity and questionable tweets with him. As Nuggets fans wait for that ONE BIG MOVE to offset other not-quite quantum leaps made by contending franchises, Denver continues to take the tortoise route through the offseason. On Monday, ESPN.com reported that the Nuggets traded a future second-round pick to the thanks-for-the-franchise-point-guard Detroit Pistons for shooting guard Arron Afflolo and power forward Walter Sharpe.
Afflolo, a UCLA grad with a nasty competitive streak, has long been thought of as a promising prospect. Then again, so has Darko Milicic. All kidding aside, Afflolo has a documented work ethic chiseled into his scouting report like the neck muscles you see to your right. Due to the limited minutes he's played (career 14.8 average) and the confusing state of two-guard Dee-troit Basketball the last few years, no one knows what to make of Afflalo at this point in his young career. His ceiling? A more reserved, better-shooting Dahntay Jones. His cellar? Um, last season.
As for Walter Sharpe, more is known about the current economic crisis than his game. He's listed as a 6'9'' power forward but looks more like a Tayshaun Prince body type. He spent significant time in the D-League last season, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
As with most Nugget moves this offseason, the question becomes: What else you got?
