Getting that great summer tan.

Summer is almost here and you know what that means. It is time to get our bodies ready for fabulous pool parties and little bitty bikinis. One great way to look your best this summer is to do a self-tan.

I know what you are thinking. Some of you may have tried to self-tan before and the end results was somewhat catatrophic. Don't worry, I've got you covered. Here are a few tips that will turn your self-tan from 'not' to 'OH, SO HOT!":

Step One: Exfoliate! Exfoliate! Exfoliate!

I can't say it enough. Ladies, you must get rid of those dead skin cells. This will truly help you to always ensure you have the best skin possible. When self-tan it is best to start off with your cleaniest skin ever. A couple of good products to use is Bliss Hot Salt Scrub ($36 at Sephora.com) and Alba Hawaiian Sugar Cane Body Polish ($12 at drugstore.com).

Step Two: Use a tinted tanning cream.

Cover you whole body with a tinted tanning cream to get a full, all over no-hassle color. This allows you to take you time sitting in the sun and not worry about getting a non-natural looking color. Try St. Tropez ($40 at StTropezTan.com) or Banana Boat Summer Color Self-Tanning Lotion ($6 at Wal-Mart or drug stores).

Step Three: Contour Trouble Spots

Use a bronzer to define those areas of your body that you don't consider your best assets. For a more defined backside, put the bronzer on the sides of each butt cheek. To make your thighs seem thinner, apply a coat down the inside of each thigh. And for a buster cleavage, sweep the bronzer up brom the depth of the cleavage. Use a powder bronzer when dealing with the chest area for more thorough coverage. Try Rimmel London Natural Bronzer ($5 at Walgreens.com).

Step Four: Make it last

You can extend the tan longer when using daily moisterizer. This is great for maintaining the health of the skin and making sure the alcohol found in tanning lotions doesn't dry out the skin. A good product to use with self-tanning is Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Body Gloss Lotion with Vitamin E ($7 at any drugstore).

That's it. You are on your way to having that beautiful flawless summer tan.
