The Blazed and Confused Tour visited Merriweather, bringing Snoop Dogg and Slightly Stoopid to light up the joint.
On a night with a dicey weather forecast at best, showgoers were there early, brushing aside any possible weather threats. The lot was already filling up at 4PM for a 6PM show. With Snoop and Stoopid, plus supporting acts Stephen Marley and Mickey Avalon doing this tour, fans were coming to party.
During the Mickey Avalon set, Slightly Stoopid drummer, Ryan Moran (aka RyMo) was generous enough to sit with us for twenty minutes for an exclusive interview, which will be posted at SurfRhythm in its entirety later today, and excerpted here on Examiner.
In an apparent twist on the lineup, Snoop went on after Stephen Marley, leaving Slightly Stoopid as the closing act. Snoop stepped up exhibited the skills that have kept him relevant and respected long after many of his contemporaries have faded. It was vintage Snoop, though the younger fans in the audience may not have appreciated it as much as the fan that has followed Snoop since his days as a pup. This was evident when Snoop asked the crowd, "Alright, who here been a Snoop fan for more than five years?" Not many long-standing Snoop fans were in attendance according to the reaction. But hey, the kids are all right, right? Even if they're newish Stoopid fans completely unaware of Snoops storied career.
Slightly Stoopid wrapped up the evening with a typically strong live performance. The Slightly Stoopid live show is something that takes on a different form every time they hit the stage. How these guys figure out new and fresh ways to make each show unique is remarkable, and one of their signatures. See them a half dozen times, and you'll essentially see six different productions. Last night's show went one large step beyond the expected though, when reggae legend Half Pint came out and performed 4 songs with Stoopid. Truly a treat; if you have never seen Half Pint live, he effortlessly nudges the energy level up and lays down beautiful vocals when playing with other bands. His solo shows are something else altogether, if you can ever catch one. But Half Pint and Stoopid together are a real treat.
