Igigi has dared to challenge perceptions and thoughts of plus size beauty and sexy with the debut of their film series ‘16′, starring the bombshell Fluvia Lacerda.

In a time where media and the fashion industry is either in love with or abhors plus size fashion, San Francisco based plus size designer, Igigi dares to set the standard of and redefine what is beautiful.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Francisco, California—October 14, 2009 —Plus-size Brazilian model, Fluvia Lacerda, stars in “16″, a short film that undermines the corporate viewpoint of beauty.

Plus-size Brazilian model, Fluvia Lacerda, stars in “16″, a short film that challenges the stereotypes of beauty currently set by the film, fashion, and advertising industries. The film is a departure from the norm, as Lacerda, is a size 16, rather than the usual size 2.

“Today women think they must fit unachievable molds in order to feel beautiful and sexy, “ says Lacerda. “As a curvy woman I have always felt sexy under my skin and this film carries that very message, a message I hope will open people’s minds with regard to how diverse beauty can be.”

At her size, Lacerda is an anomaly in the fashion world, which has historically been defined by bone thin, size 00 models. “16″ is part of an accelerating movement in fashion and media to portray women with realistic body sizes. After several models died of anorexia in 2006, a push was made inside the fashion industry to change the unreasonable size standards in runway shows. Television and print media is also starting to show women who more accurately represent America — where the average woman is a size 14. Most recently, Glamour Magazine’s November photo spread featured famous plus size models, with an accompanying editorial pledging to include larger sizes on its pages in the future.

This provocative film is directed by Mark De Paola, a fashion photographer and director whose portfolio includes Armani and DKNY.

Lacerda has modeled for Torrid, Fashion Bug and Biluzik. In “16” she is shown in the shower, wearing lingerie, and then walking in an evening gown.

The two-minute film was commissioned by IGIGI, a women’s size 12+ fashion apparel retailer. “16” is the first film to be created and produced by a plus size womens’ fashion company.

“IGIGI’s philosophy is that every woman deserves to feel beautiful,”says IGIGI’s founder and designer, Yuliya Raquel. “Television and fashion magazines are starting to acknowledge that women who are size 12-plus exist, but “16″ goes beyond that. We made this film because we believe that curvy women should not only feel acknowledged, but be celebrated, too. It represents how IGIGI sees women– beautiful, sexy and powerful. ”
