Hope Davis, last seen as the bitter and self-deprecating Mia on HBO's original series "In Treatment," has been cast as the nation's current Secretary of State and former First Lady Hillary Clinton in the upcoming movie "The Special Relationship."
Davis replaces Julianne Moore in the project, which chronicles the distinctive and often tumultuous political relationship between newly installed British Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.S. President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s.
Per the Hollywood Reporter, the joint HBO Films/BBC Films production is slated to begin shooting July 20 in London under director Richard Loncraine, who stepped in to helm after Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan – who also penned "The Special Relationship" – pulled out last month.
Due to hit theaters in 2011, the feature would have served as Morgan's directorial debut.
Dennis Quaid is on board to play President Clinton, Michael Sheen will portray Prime Minister Blair and Helen McCrory is to suit up as Cherie Blair.
Moore had to pull out of the Hillary Clinton role due to a scheduling conflict with her commitment to the feature "The Kids Are All Right."
Davis is currently on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning play "God of Carnage" for which she received a Tony nomination. In last season's "In Treatment," her character Mia was a successful malpractice lawyer who blamed her former psychoanalyst Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne) for the fact that she was still alone and childless in her early 40s.
