According to Hollywood trade magazine Variety, the cable channel signed a standard four-year movie license deal with Disney for the romantic comedy, which took in a domestic gross of $34.1 million over the weekend.
In the film, Bullock stars as a Canadian immigrant who rushes into a marriage of convenience with her young office assistant (Ryan Reynolds) after finding out she's about to be deported. He reluctantly agrees in order to save his job.
FX will ultimately pay 12% of "The Proposal's" final gross for the movie, which will be available to the network roughly 30 months from now -- in late 2011.
As previously reported, FX also swooped rights to previous box office champ "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," the Ben Stiller movie shot at various spots around Washington.
As is standard, Disney will retain rights to secure deals for a broadcast run or two for "The Proposal" during FX's window.
Bullock, a graduate of Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, is married to TV star and recent "Celebrity Apprentice" finalist Jesse James. The CEO of motorcycle makeover company West Coast Choppers and host of the former Discovery Channel series "Monster Garage" is now the star of Spike TV's "Jesse James is a Dead Man."
