After serious discussion about her role as a brutally abusive mother in the film "Precious," actress and BET talk show host Mo'Nique lifted the mood considerably on Tuesday's "Ellen Degeneres Show" with talk of her large head.
The Woodlawn, Md native, who has recently shed about 40 pounds, says she was perfectly content tipping the scale at 262, until her husband Sidney Hicks looked at her one day with concern.
She told Ellen, "My husband was getting out of the shower – and I was in the mirror, naked, admiring the kitten in me, having a good time with myself – and he said, 'How much do you weigh?' And I said, 'Two hundred and sixty-two pounds, just as nice.' And he said, 'Mama, that's too much. I want you for a lifetime.'"
"Well at that moment, that's when it connected," admitted the 41-year-old mother of four-year-old twins David and Jonathan. The comedian decided she would make an effort to eat healthier foods and exercise, but she understands that genetics may limit just how low her weight can go.
"I'll never be a small woman, Ellen. Look at my head. It's big. I'm not ashamed of it," said Mo'Nique. "It's a big head. It's a sexy big head. And my shoulders gotta match it!"
