When local business woman Ester Venouziou discovered a disconnect between local shoppers, local business and the community it served spread far across the Bay area, she made it her mission to connect the dots, launching LocalShops1.com (www.localshops1.com).
The virtual shopping directory provides a handy resource to bring consumers and businesses together easily and efficiently. “We try to be as supportive as we can of smaller, independent businesses, and the problem is, most people who live here or visit the area typically don't know where to go to find these stores,” says the founder. “That’s where we come in, bringing together local shops and potential customers.”
Recently, the St. Pete-based company was awarded a $250,000 comprehensive marketing campaign comprised of television, print, radio and online advertising after winning the business-to-business category of Malcolm Out Loud’s premiere of the Perfect Pitch marketing competition. “We were thrilled to get the good news,” said Venouziou. “Our staff worked so hard pulling everything together but we never lost sight of the impact such a prize could have on getting the word out about the site.”
In addition to providing Bay area consumers an informative shopping resource of over 700 locally listed shops and boutiques, LocalShops1.com frequently hosts community events including networking functions, marketing seminars and fundraisers in conjunction with its business members’ efforts. In the past few months, the site has participated in several clothing swaps, collecting truckloads of donations for Simply Hope, a Pinellas Park transitional housing program for recovering substance abusers (men and women), and CASA, a family resource center and shelter for victims of domestic violence and their families located in St. Petersburg.
