Single moms need consistent outpouring of love.

Mother's Day is a great time of creatively expressed love and appreciation. Today deserving woman throughout the world are receiving heartfelt cards, candy, gifts, meals, etc. Unfortunately, many women need — and don't receive — such an outpouring much more often than one day per year.

Specifically, as Christians, we should not forget the extreme pressure put on single mothers day in and day out. While presents and uncommon adulation are great every once in awhile, what these women need is consistent love and practical support from their communities.

Jesus insisted that he we love one another, but what are some ways to actually carry this out in the life of a single mom?

  • Help fix things and clean around her house.
  • Have her and her family over for dinner and a game night.
  • Become an unofficial "big brother" or "big sister" to her children.
  • Provide transportation.
  • Offer financial assistance in dire situations.
  • Become a discipleship leader.

None of these avenues for aid are as flashy as traditional Mother's Day offerings, but all are beautiful outpourings of the love God has placed in our lives.

Beyond the aforementioned actions, let's also strive to ensure every mother has heard the most important love story in history. Let's share the sweet fact that anyone can better handle the difficult situations common in this fallen world by accepting the peace that comes from a life given over to God.

That's a Mother's Day gift that will never wilt or tear.
