While it may not appear on the television show "Cops" anytime soon, several La Mesa residents and police officers battled at a residence Tuesday evening.
According to authorities, a pair of men and a woman were arrested after a brawl at a La Mesa apartment complex that left one police sergeant injured.
The sergeant, whose name was not released, was treated at Alvarado Hospital for a minor leg injury suffered while breaking up the brawl in the 7400 block of Mohawk Street around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say they responded to a fight involving 10 to 15 people who were heard yelling and screaming from an upstairs unit.
According to police, once they entered the apartment, Lonnie Irvin, 22, came at one of the officers, leading to a struggle. The individual's mother reportedly joined in the brawl in an attempt to get her son to stop resisting when she was injured.
In all, four people were taken into custody during the incident, including Irvin, who was booked into county jail on suspicion of resisting arrest by force causing injury.
Joining Irvin in handcuffs were Leroy Moore, 27, and Tosha Cooper, 20. Both were arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public.
A 16-year-old boy was also taken into custody on suspicion of resisting arrest and later released to the custody of his parents.
Anyone thinking that cops have an easy job only need to look at a situation like this and how quickly it can get out of hand.
At the end of the day, we can all be thankful to the men and women who protect us.
