Police, the victims and the public will never quite know if Thomas Parker was guilty of a string of sexual assault
s over the last year in San Diego.
Parker, the Tierrasanta businessman accused in a home invasion and sexual assault series, committed suicide by hanging at the downtown jail early Friday morning. Authorities tried to revive Parker, but to no avail.
According to authorities, Parker apparently used a sheet to take his own life and was not on suicide watch.
Parker, who was taken into custody on Wednesday after he allegedly tried to rape a 33-year-old Mission Valley woman in her garage, was chased down by his alleged victim and several other people before police arrived to arrest him.
Parker, the father ot two children, and co-owner of It's a Grind Coffee House in Little Italy, was linked via DNA and other evidence to seven sexual assaults. Evidence pointed to Parker in at least three of seven home-invasion sexual assaults and robberies that began a year ago this time.
While always innocent until proven guilty, it appears that police got their man.
It is unfortunate, however, that Parker decided to take the cowardly way out and not stand trial on the crimes he was alleged to have committed.
