Just when you think you have heard it all....
A San Diego area man was arrested this week on suspicion of snatching the purse of a pregnant woman who died early Sunday in a crash on Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Mark Christopher Struk, 31, was taken into custody at his home and booked into jail on suspicion of felony grand theft.
Struk and a female passenger, who was not arrested, are suspected of slowing down along I-5 and stealing the purse of accident victim Yine Erandy Gonzalez Angeles, 24, of Tijuana, a passenger in a Ford Explorer, who died at a hospital. Gonzalez was six months pregnant, and the child also passed away.
According to the CHP, John Francis Sudac Jr., 27, of Carlsbad was speeding and switching lanes on I-5 in Solana Beach about 1 a.m. when his Nissan Altima hit the Explorer, resulting in the SUV rolling.
Shortly after the crash, a station wagon came by and a female passenger stole Gonzalez's purse, which has not been recovered. Witnesses noted the license plate number of the wagon.
As bad as Sudac is for reportedly causing the accident, Struk's alleged actions are even worse.
Finding good people to stop and help accident victims is hard enough. Have some people now resorted to doing even worse when a fellow citizen is on the side of the road in need of assistance?
Here's hoping this is an isolated incident and that people have a little more compasion for their fellow human beings.
