A physical education teacher at Oceanside High School was taken into custody Thursday on allegations that he was involved in a two-year sexual relationship with a student starting when she was 15 years old, according to police.
Police said Corey Hogue, 37, was to be booked into Vista jail on suspicion of a pair of counts of rape and two counts of lewd and lascivious acts.
Hogue, who was placed on administrative leave last month, is now on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the criminal case.
According to police, the female student reported the relationship to police in late October, informing detectives that the sexual encounters happened at Hogue’s house in Oceanside, where he resides with his wife and children.
Hogue was hired three years ago to teach physical education and health, as well as coach boys’ varsity basketball.
While these cases are not the norm, they unfortunately seem to be popping up more in schools in recent years.
Should he be found innocent, Hogue will find like many others who have been in this position that their lives are changed forever.
