The 2009 SoBE Wine & Food Festival has raised about $2 million this year. This sum benefits FIU's School of Hospitality & Tourism Management as well as the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center. The event became such a cash cow because of the $4 million in ticket sales from foodies just chomping at the bit to get an up close and personal peek at their fav. culinary celebs, including Emeril Lagasse, Rachael Ray, Martha Stewart, Daniel Boulud, Paula Deen, Bobby Flay, Rocco DiSpirito and more. Local restauranteurs like Michael Schwartz, Michelle Bernstein and Mark Militello were in the mix. It was a chance for the Who's Who in the food world to get together and jam, so to speak. Other celebs also attended, including Governor Charlie Crist, Gloria Estefan and Julio Iglesias.
Missed the food demonstrations, book signings, wine tastings, seminars and soirees? Don't worry. There's always next year. 2010's event will be held February 25-28. Visit www.sobewineandfoodfest.com for more information.
