Man, they get younger and younger

If there's a tournament that every poker player dreams of winning besides the Main Event at the World Series, it's the World Poker Tour's $25,000 buy-in Championship at the Bellgio Hotel and Casino held every April.

After a long 8 days of ups and downs, Yevgeniy Timoshenko maintained his cool and took down the WPT title that put an end to season VII of the World Poker Tour. The 21-year old Yevgeniy came into the final table as the chip leader with his huge stack of over 13.2 million chips and soon battled his way through five other tough opponents and captured the victory.

The victory wasn't all fun and games though. There was another player in Seat 2 who's been dying to win this event for many years: Scotty Nguyen. Scotty came into the final table with over 3.2 million and chips and fully believed he was capable of taking down the championship. Being the odds on favorite to win, Scotty got into a hand with young gun Shannon Shorr and never recovered when Shannon's pocket 10's held up against Scotty's pocket 6's. Soon after, Scotty's hopes of a WPT Championship title faded away as his trip aces(A-4) lost to a higher kicker of Christian Harden's A-9. Scotty was eliminated in 6th place for a payday of $285,985.

It took another five hours of table action for Timoshenko to get down to heads up with Ran Azor. But as the two locked horns, it was experience that began to work in Timoshenko's favor. Even though his only major win was at the Asian Poker Tour Macau Championship Event, Timoshenko used his big tournament skills to eat away at Azor's stack. Down to only 4.1 million chips compared to Yevgeniy's 29.5 million, Azor pushed all in with his Q-10 against Yevgeniy's A-3. When the flop slammed down Q-J-7 with a K on the turn, an easy double up was in Azor's hopes, but when the river came a gushing, a 10 spiked the felt giving the state of Washington's Yevgeniy Timoshenko a straight and his first ever WPT title worth over $2.1 million.

Final Table Results:

6th Place - Scotty Nguyen($285,985)

5th Place - Shannon Shorr($408,550)

4th Place - Christian Harder($571,965)

3rd Place - Bertrand Grospellier($776,245)(His third- place finish garned him WPT Player of the Year)

2nd Place - Ron Azor($1,446,265)

1st Place - Yevgeniy Timoshenko($2,149,960)
