There are so many amazing things to do every weekend in San Francisco, but one of the best things is the amount of concerts that are set in amazing locations outside. From the middle of Golden Gate Park to the Eucalyptus filled Stern Grove, here are some ideas for the next few months that anyone can enjoy.
First, is Stern Grove. If you haven't been to this amazing amphitheater, it is a must see. Surrounded by fragrant Eucalyptuses, the music and the scenery blend together to create a great Sunday afternoon. The concerts are free and varied. From ballet and opera, to Bangra, one of the weekends will be right for you. For a listing of events, visit them here.
Next is my all time favorite, the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. With 5 stages and 3 days of music, this is one of Octobers biggest highlights, and we all know that summer really starts in the city around then. The official dates are October 2, 3, and 4th. The music is festive and fun, and the concert is free thanks to a music loving philanthropist that thinks we should all be able to enjoy it. Located in Golden Gate park, near speedway meadow.
One concert that is not free (read $200+ for all three days) is Outside Lands festival, also held in Golden Gate Park. The major draw for this festival is the big name headliners - this year being Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, and the Beastie Boys, so the price becomes a bit more understandable. The line-up is impressive, and if you are a music fan, this may prove to be one of the most indulgent but fun concerts of the summer. There are also lots of great perks to this concert, like their eco-village and commitment to keeping the festival green. For the full line-up visit SFOutsideLands.com here.
