A few months ago I posted an article comparing YouVesion and Olive Tree mobile Bible software.   This month YouVersion added some nice updates to its Bible.

 YouVersion

Here are three changes you should check out:

1. You can tweet a verse

While on you mobile device, such as a Blackberry or iPhone, you can post a verse to your Twitter stream.  For example, you look up John 3:16 on your device while in YouVersion.   Click on the menu and you now see an option to "tweet verse."   Click that option and add your Twitter name and password to the fields in YouVersion, then select "update."  The verse will appear in your Twitter stream, plus a link to the YouVersion online verse.   If the verse is longer than 140 characters, it will post as much as Twitter will allow and the reader will have to link to the online version to se the rest.

2. You can join a live event

Pastors and event leaders can add an event to YouVersion.  Participants in the event can receive notes, Bible references, polls, and other interactive features through their mobile device while in the YouVersion application.   The point of the live event function in YouVersion is to encourage community and enable sharing of inofrmation surrounding an event.    Notes can be saved to your YouVersion mobile device or to your online version on your laptop for later reference.

3.  You can join a YouVersion Group

This is a sub-section of the YouVersion Live feature.  Through Groups, you can find people with common ideas and interests as it relates to the Bible and Christianity.  The group could be a Bible study, worship group, or campus ministry.  As we've seen with other forms of social media, the possibilities are endless.
