There are so many talented musicians in our world that dream of traveling to New York or Hollywood to sign with a huge record label—this would be the beginning of any band’s professional career. But, how do musicians make their dreams possible? How can any musician make it big? Here are some tips that could make someone’s music career dreams come true:

Be determined!
Don’t let the little things bother you when you’re trying to make something big happen for your music. Without determination, where would any of us be? You don’t want to be the person at your high school reunion who gave up on his life because he lost all faith in himself and his goals. Just like with any goal in life, you have to work for it! Don’t let one closed door stop you from pursuing your musical (and personal) aspirations.

Possess business smarts
When you’re attempting to break into the music industry (especially for the first time), make sure that you possess some form of business sense. It is always good to do research on record labels before you send out your demos to them; find a label that suits your musical genre and check on their credentials. Additionally, contact artists that have signed with labels your interested in; testimonials are always a good thing to use when making a business decision. Make sure to read contracts thoroughly, be wary of any sketchy hidden details when signing to a label, and don’t let anyone take advantage of you because you’re new.

Don’t lose sight of where you came from
It’s so important to have people from home to keep you grounded. A lot of musicians gain inspiration from their surroundings, which includes their hometowns and the people in it. Don’t ever forget Mom and Dad and the people who influenced who you are and how far you’ve come. These are the people that matter the most in any situation. They’ll always be there in the front row cheering you on.

BE YOURSELF
Can this be any more obvious? If you’re fortunate enough to sign with a record label and move to a bigger city, don’t change who you are because of your new surroundings and exciting life. If you’re signing with a label, it’s not just because of your music—it’s because of the connection that you have made with the people in the studio, too. Don’t try to be something that you’re not; record executives will see right through it.
