Let’s face it: money is the answer to relatively everything in the world… especially concert tickets for the hottest shows of the year. Websites such as StubHub.com, Cheap Tickets, and even Craig’s List sell and buy concert tickets to the masses at outrageously expensive prices. I don’t know about the average person, but the most that I have ever spent on a concert ticket was around 40 dollars; that 40 dollar ticket (to the Vans Warped Tour in 2007, by the way) gave me the passage to see more than one band, but almost 20. However, when it comes to the best shows and performers, money is in the eye of the beholder. People will pay whatever amount the selling price is asking if it means that they will be able to see their favorite performer live in concert.

In 2008, Madonna held the record for the most expensive concert ticket prices (at almost $400 a ticket BEFORE people went out and sold them for more on their own). In 2009, ticket prices for popular artists such as Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, and Fall Out Boy have had their tickets sold on StubHub.com for way more than their original asking prices.

For Taylor Swift’s upcoming performance at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD on June 11, tickets are being sold from $90 a ticket to almost $1400 a ticket. I love Taylor Swift’s music and tried to buy tickets to this now sold out show (tickets sold out on the first day of online sales); however, I would never pay that much to see her or anyone else. I’d rather watch the footage from someone’s video camera rather than pay that much just to attend a concert.

If you thought that the Taylor Swift ticket prices were outrageous, j ust wait for this next one. I knew that the Jonas Brothers’ ticket prices would be high, but not as high as I found them on “Cheap” Tickets.com. For a summer performance in New York, someone is attempting to sell their seats for $999,999.00 and not a penny less. Now, I’m not sure if this person did this as a joke, but come on—be a little realistic.

Fall Out Boy gets the gold medal for the cheapest tickets out there. While their April 25th show at Merriweather has yet to sell out, individuals across Maryland have been anxiously awaiting buyers on Craig’s List and Stub Hub. On Craig’s List, the most expensive tickets for this weekend’s concert range from $100 to $300 a ticket. While I would never pay that much for a concert ticket, some people would find those prices to be a steal, especially for such a popular band as Fall Out Boy.

Be wary of ticket scams out there, too. Watch out for those egregious prices (and if buying them online, watch out for convenience and service charges) and make sure to know who you’re really buying your tickets from.
