U.S. based Newmarket films made the announcement last Thursday that they will be distributing the controversial film Creation; a movie that depicts the life of Charles Darwin and his authorship of the book The Origin of the Species.
Initially, it was feared that the film would not be able to find a U.S. distributor due to the film's thematic elements. In a press release, Newmarket films' Chris Ball stated "We at Newmarket pride ourselves in getting behind important films that help open the door for discussion and conversation, as is the case with Creation."
The release goes on to say that "while Darwin's name has come to symbolize one side of a debate between the scientific and the theological, Creation depicts the man as the debate in total, with both sides contending, sometimes violently, within him. In that sense, we believe that the film will appeal to people of faith and people of science."
Newmarket films has released such films as Memento, Donnie Darko, Whale Rider and The Passion of the Christ. Newmarket plans to release Creation in December.Creation stars Paul Bettany as Charles Darwin and is directed by John Amiel.
