Thunder Over Louisville is just around the corner but you still have time to make a quick blanket to take with you. One of my favorite memories as a child was staking out a spot downtown with my family and having a picnic on a big blanket before the fireworks started. Some Thunders were cold enough that we were warming up under the blanket instead of sitting on top of it. Either way, packing a blanket is a good idea.
Quilts would be an ideal blanket to take outside. They are sturdy, warm, and often big enough for multiple people. Of course, with Thunder being this Saturday, making a quilt is not an option. If you want to make a quick blanket, I would recommend the No Sew Fleece Blanket.
There are several tutorials for these blankets on the internet, but the directions are very basic. All you need to do is go to a fabric store and get two different fleece fabrics. You could use two colored pieces of fabric or two patterns, but a solid fabric paired with a pattern looks the best. The more yardage of fabric that you buy, the bigger the blanket will be. Trying to find a firework fabric pattern for your Thunder blanket would be a nice touch.
To start your project, trim the two fabric pieces to the same size. Cut slits up the sides and tie the two fringe pieces into a knot. I tightly double knot the fringe just to be sure that the blanket is secure. Do this all the way around the blanket. It is best to cut some fringe, tie some fringe, and then cut some more. When you finish tying up the fringe, you are finished. Enjoy packing up the blanket and taking your family to one of the best events in Louisville.
