They’re not Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul by a long shot but when Giampiero Di Persia, CEO of Poltrona Frau, and Giulio Cappellini, who heads his eponymous brand, squared off about the design of their new 2,200-square-foot Cappellini showroom adjacent to Poltrona Frau’s 6,000-square-foot space in the Miami Design District, you might be surprised who came out on top.
“I finally gave in to Giulio’s unbelievably strong vision of showing the art behind a usable object,” explains Di Persia, “He insisted that we create more of an art exhibition than a simple store display.” Why choose Miami to follow showrooms in New York and Los Angeles? “Miami is a meeting point for collectors from around the globe,” says Cappellini. “I’m really curious to see myself within the context of Miami’s history and cultures.” You can look for a melding of technology and the artisanal in the new space, which recently opened—one of the hallmarks of the Cappellini brand. Come December, the showroom will be one of the Design Miami/ satellite exhibitions. Stay tuned here for more as the art/design scene in Miami heats up big time!
