DIY gardening? For some Denver residents, tending the lawn and garden is hired out to others. While this may seem like a time saving proposition, it's also a costly one. Not being a DIY gardener costs more than money. DIY gardening is good for mental, physical and financial well being.

DIY gardening gives individuals a sense of accomplishment. Denver gardeners can take pride in gardens grown with their own hands and set of skills. There is nothing like the feeling a DIY gardener gets when those first sprouts peek out of the ground.

DIY gardening is a learning experience. Nothing makes a person feel better about themselves than learning new skills and putting them into practice. Even failures in the DIY gardening experience give us lessons to apply to next years DIY garden.

DIY gardening ensures a chemical free harvest. Companies hired to plant and care for gardens often use chemical shortcuts to speed up or “improve” crops. DIY gardeners have the satisfaction of knowing exactly what goes into their food and soil.

DIY gardening gives gardeners an opportunity to eat produce fresh from the garden. Hiring a company to harvest the Denver garden means they often harvest the entire garden at once. DIY gardening allows gardeners to pick fruits and vegetables as needed.

DIY gardening saves a bundle on produce. Hiring a gardener is an unnecessary out of pocket cost. Plant, weed, water, fertilize and harvest your own produce to save money. DIY gardening is a much bigger savings over hiring a gardening service.

DIY gardening provides exercise and fresh air. Too many Denver residents spend their days indoors. DIY gardening gives opportunity to get off the couch. Gardening is much more rewarding than other forms of exercise. It's no hamster wheel.

DIY gardening is a family bonding experience. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of working in the garden alongside my Dad. The harvest of our DIY garden also gave me much time canning and freezing with Mom.

DIY gardening is a useful skill to pass down to kids. Knowing how to plant and care for a DIY garden gets people through some rough economic times. DIY gardening has become popular in todays economic crisis for good reason. It works and it makes sense!
