Veterans Day: Boston golf courses offer end-of-season specials
November 11 -- It may feel like spring out there on Veterans Day, but when it looks like midnight and it’s only 4:30 p.m., you know it’s time to take advantage of end-of-season deals on Boston golf courses.
Weather.com calls for Boston golfers to enjoy at least 10 more days of chili-dipping chip shots and duffing drives.
So act now because this May-like weather can’t last forever. No matter what the state of denial in which many Boston golfers live (else why would golfers live in a frozen tundra for five or six months a year -- other the fact that everyone lives as equals in most of New England; what’s wrong with you, Maine?!), it really is November, after all.
So don’t unload those clubs from the trunk just yet. Get a load of these deals:
Join for next year and play now for free. Several New England golf courses want you to join now for 2010 and play the rest of this year for free. Here’s a sample of those clubs:

Sky Meadow Country Club. The 18-hole, par-72, private club in Nashua, NH, offers a reduced initiation fee into next season. Join now and pay a one-time, $1,000 initiation fee instead of the usual $6,000. Then, play out this season and wait until next year to pay your full membership dues for 2010. Newport National Golf Club. The award-winning links course in Middletown, RI, offers golf for the rest of the 2009 season if you join this semi-private club for next year. The season is longer down south in Rhode Island, but no reason to wait. Fees: $3,500 for an individual; $5,550 for a family. Call 401-848-9690.

Lyman Orchards Golf Club. Join now and have your choice of two 18-hole courses in Middlefield, CT. Robert Trent Jones designed the The Jones” Course in 1969, while Gary Player opened “The Players Course” in 1994. Membership fees at this semi-private club are $2,600 for an individual and $3,750 for a couple. Call 860-349-6031.

Cape Cod Country Club. You can play Cape Cod golf virtually all year so joining a premier, semi-private course in North Falmouth, MA, has major benefits. But a 2010 season pass before December 18 and take advantage of the Cape’s moderate temperatures for the rest of 2009. You’ll also be eligible for a drawing for a free 2010 membership. The Captains Golf Course. Pay the reduced non-resident membership fee for this semi-private, 36-hole club in Brewster, MA, on the lower Cape, and play until March 31, 2011. You may also pay $750 now and the balance by April 1, 2010 and play the Port and Starboard courses.

Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Course. Four golfers play on weekdays for the price of three through November at this upper Cape course in Marston Mills, MA. Offer, which is also available at Hyannis Golf Course, expires Nov. 30, 2009. Call 508-420-1141.
