Saying that he is feeling much better after having taken some time off, Roger Federer announced on his Facebook page early Thursday afternoon that he intends to return to the court in time to compete in his hometown tournament, the Davidoff Swiss Indoors, scheduled for the week of November 2nd in Basel.

The announcement came as glad news to fans of Federer as well as tournament organizers and sponsors, no doubt all of whom were concerned about the rumors which had been circulating around him that the world #1 was calling it a season and resting up for 2010 as had initially been reported by Yahoo! earlier on Thursday as being a possibility.  While Roger did not elaborate in his posting as to his future plans beyond the Swiss Indoors, it is difficult to imagine that barring injury he will not compete in the Paris Masters slated for the following week, and the ATP World Tour Finals beginning November 22nd in London, England.  At the very least, Federer has quashed the rumors that he is finished for the year by announcing his intention to compete at the Swiss Indoors.

Federer is currently holding a lead of 1710 points over his next closest rival, Rafael Nadal, for the top world ranking, and Nadal appears to be regaining his form after being sidelined by knee and abdominal injuries throughout parts of his 2009 campaign having reached the final of last week's Shanghai Masters 1000 event. Two qualifying spots for the World Tour finals remain as the top 6 have now been secured, with Nikolay Davydenko having greatly boosted his chances for gaining entry by winning in Shanghai, but the 8th spot still very much up for grabs as Fernando Verdasco, Robin Soderling, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will be slugging it out over the seasons few remaining weeks for the final berth in the year end championships.
