The South Carolina State Museum will be the venue for the Decorative Arts of the South Carolina Fall Line Symposium this Saturday, November 7th. The seminar is sponsored by Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) of Winston-Salem, NC and the member institutions of the Fall Line Consortium. Speakers will address needlework furniture, silver, pottery, paintings and photographs produced within the Fall Line Region of South Carolina. The schedule for the seminar is:

10:00 Welcome and Introductions

10:15 Signatures in Silk: Refinement and Transition along the South Carolina Fall Line by Patricia Veasey of Clover, South Carolina.

11:15 Morning break

11:30 From the Cradle to the Grave: The Impact of New Jersey Cabinetmakers on Columbia, Sc 1830-1875 by John Sherrer, Director of Cultural Resources, Historic Columbia Foundation.
Your Silver Must Always Be Real by Roger Stroup, Columbia, South Carolina.

12:30 Lunch

1:30 Clay and Commerce: Ceramics along the Fall Line by Jill Koverman, Curator of Collections, The McKissick Museum of the University of South Carolina and Paul Matheny, Chief Art curator, The South Carolina State Museum.

2:30 Afternoon Break

2:45 Memory Makers: Fall Line Artists and Photographers, 1740-1940 by Fritz Hamer, Chief Curator of History, The South Carolina State Museum and Alexis Thompson, Director of Historic House Museums, Historic Columbia Foundation

3:45 closing discussion and comments.

Cost of the seminar is $55 which includes all sessions and lunch and admission to the exhibit, From the Pee Dee tot he Savannah: Art and Material Culture from South Carolina's Fall Line Region which is on display at the State Museum.
