As the investigation continues into the horror at Ft. Hood last week there are readers of this Examiner column who can step up and do something to help.

First of all, it should be noted that no members of the Ft. Hood based B Company or their family members were harmed in the event.

Here is what you can do!

~The Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas is still requesting blood donations.

~The Killeen American Red Cross Chapter will be collecting blood donations at 208 West Avenue A (downtown Killeen) specifically to assist the victims of the Ft. Hood shooting tragedy.

~If you are interested in donating blood to help our service members and others who suffer tragedy and you do not reside locally, please contact the National American Red Cross Center at: 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-4483-5433).

These tips were submitted by Jamie Anderson, B. Company 303rd MI BN Family Readiness Leader, Ft. Hood, Texas.

Additionally, Ms. Anderson suggests:

If you or your soldier feel that you would like someone to speak to about this situation, please call this 24-hour Ft. Hood crisis hotline: 1-888-799-7233.

Another important resource for your soldiers is the R&R Urgent Care and Triage Center (UCTC) (building # 36009 on Main Post). The R&R UCTC is a walk-in urgent care clinic for behavioral health-related services. They are open from 7:30am - 4:00pm. The R&R UCTC sees service members only.

Ms. Anderson can be reached at her Ft. Hood office:

Examiner’s Note:
No doubt there will be opportunities to donate to individual funds locally for the families of the victims. More information as that becomes available.
