You'd rather be here, but you have to work

As the days get longer some people tend to experience the work distraction factor. The sun is shining bright, the kids are outside playing, and the last thing you want to do is sit inside your office until 6pm.

But work still has to be done and telecommuters don’t get a “but it’s summer” pass.

The following tips are for those who work in a results-based environment where hours don’t matter as long as the work gets done.

Start work earlier so you can finish earlier. This is a really great tip for night owls like me who can’t seem to function in the earlier hours of the morning. By starting earlier, I can be finished earlier and I can enjoy the rest of my day; whereas if I start later in the morning, I’ll be stuck working until 6 or 7.

Stick to the schedule no matter what. Don’t start giving yourself passes to take swim days or picnics in the park. If you didn’t plan it, don’t do it; instead plan for when you are going to work and plan for your days off.

Take a 30 minute walk in the morning or afternoon. Getting outside for a bit is not only good for your health but it can also help you clear your mind and recharge so you’ll be less likely to sit at your desk daydreaming for hours about how you’d rather not be working.
