This should be a cause for celebration amongst Pre owners.

While the notion of something being “leaked” usually denotes a rumor or a product being released ahead of schedule making a company angry, this leak actually might do wonders for the product at hand.

If you are unfamiliar with the acronym SDK, basically is means Software Development Kit, it’s the tool that application developers use to make those things some of you might download called ‘applications’.

Apple has been in the news lately with their applications for somewhat of a bad reason, but the news coming out today for the Palm Pre is nothing but good.

Both Pre Insiders and Gizmodo are reporting that a beta version of the Palm Pre’s SDK, called Mojo, has started to circulate on the web long before the scheduled release date that Palm said would be sometime in the late summer.

Developers, Pre owners, and app users everywhere should be rejoicing at the news for several reasons.

First and foremost, while the Pre itself is a very genuine competitor for the iPhone, it obviously does not have the same amount of dev support that truly is an Achilles heel in this summer’s smartphone battle and beyond.

Now that a version of Mojo has been leaked early, developers that have been waiting for this to be released can begin to get to work sooner rather than later which might have been crippling to the Pre’s infancy. More apps mean more interest and more interest means more sales and more sales means more competition.

That leads us to the second point for celebration.

This news is going to spike competition for application development and this competition is going to greatly benefit not only Apple, Pre and beyond but the consumers who own them.

Why?

For one it’s going to bring Pre developers in direct competition with iPhone developers for the first time which could produce some interesting results and two, there probably is going to be a lot of cross development going on with applications only found on the iPhone potentially making their way to the Pre.

Of course, this is only a Beta release of Mojo and because Palm hasn’t exactly given their blessings in regards to the release, please use the SDK and the future applications at your own risk.

Again, this is great news for the Pre community and hopefully Palm decides that it is too.
