In case you forgot, and maybe you did with all of the news focusing on Google Wave and Google Voice, Google is going to be releasing an operating system called Chrome. You may recognize that name from their browser.
Yes, they share a name.
The cloud-powered operating system was confirmed by Google all the way back in July and it has flown under the main stream radar until today when rumors started to swirl about. Those rumors have placed Chrome OS’ release date around a week from today, which, in a word would be, excellent.
The rumors come via the Washington Post and apparently, the sources are very reliable. And like any rumor, it doesn’t have much substance, just speculation, but this the first substantial news about a possible release date, so, we’ll roll with it.
It’s going to be interesting to see how well Chrome catches on with Windows 7 from Microsoft and Snow Leopard from Apple only recently released to customers. However, if there’s one thing to be learned in the tech world, it’s to never count out Google.
Android, anyone?
Oh, and netbook users should definitely be excited.
So, get excited.
