This article is to both praise and lament the people at Blackberry and Verizon. Months ago I was at to forefront of complaints about the Blackberry Storm. The simple fact is that it was released long before the software was ready. There were too many problems to mention in this article and I have addressed them in past Examiner articles.

The focus of my business is on attorneys, and so I evaluate technology in the context of how it functions within a law practice. Up until about a week ago when I installed the software update, I would have had to say that the Blackberry Storm will ruin your practice if you depend on mobile computing.

That has all changed with this update. Now the Storm functions like it was advertised six months ago. Now the keyboard works. Now the "tilt thingy" works. Now it doesn't freeze up. Now internet surfing is fast and easy. Now tether speeds are where they should be. In short, now the darn thing works. But since I inspired hate mail from my last review, I decided not to go this one alone.

I asked a Florida DUI Lawyer to take a look at the Blackberry Storm. Busy DUI lawyers, especially ones who run a state-wide practice are often on the go and tied to their mobile devices a lot of the time. This device is now passable for such a lawyer.

I also asked Oregon attorney Bart Herron what he thought of the Storm. He agreed that it is now a viable solution for the mobile attorney.

I have not tried the new iPhone yet, and up until I installed this update on the Storm, I was about to switch as soon as I could get my hands on one. I can say without a doubt that I will not trust Verizon or RIM in the future to wait until a product is actually usable to release it. If they put something new out, I will let other people be their suckers (err, beta testers) and break it in for the first six months. That said, I love this phone. Finally!

For  John Musca and Bart Herron and the other mobile attorneys of the world, the Storm is now a viable option.
