After what seemed like the driest week in Mac news, finally, Silicon Alley Inside is reporting that the Mac Tablet we've all been waiting so long for --- isn't coming anytime soon. They're projecting a 2010 launch, citing the difficulty with the operating system platform which is apparently Apple's third rendition of OS X. (Mac OS X and iPhone OS X are the first two, in case you were wondering.)
MacRumors.com calls it a 'hybrid' between the two, but the actual article doesn't specify. Instead, it says it's "more robust than the iPhone [OS] but optimized for touch screens."
MacRumors also coupled this news with a report on AppleInsider.com saying that the device is going to be hitting the $500-700 dollar range -- and shares sentiment with the Silicon Alley article -- that it'll be blowing anything in the netbook world out of the water. AppleInsider further reports that the device will be in the 7-10 inch range.
Purely out of my own speculation, it would be interesting if Apple released two versions. $499 gets you a Mac Tablet at 7 inches and then $699 for a Mac Tablet Pro at 10 inches.
Other than this little slice of news, there have been ongoing rumors about enhanced features for the iPhone 3.0 software release and a couple of tid-bits about the new rumored iPhone. A few unverified claims about iPhone video editing and potential aesthetic changes to the device itself were discussed on Leo Laporte's popular podcast "Mac Break Weekly". MacRumors also reported on some screen shots of iPhone 3.0 Push notification for 3rd party apps coming from MyAppleGuide.
The culmination of all these rumors is expected to come to a head at the World Wide Developer's conference in June. After that, expect new speculation to begin on whatever they didn't talk about. For the time being, however, this Apple Products Examiner is itching for an actual product to examine!
Lets hope for some new fruit from Apple soon.
