Save time, money: Visit local sites
Finding a treasure doesn’t require far off travels. Dorothy in the “Wizard of Oz” discovered that she didn’t need to go any further than her own backyard to find her most valued possessions.
Take time to explore your own community for some of the best sights and activities. Not only will you save time and money,

both precious commodities, you will discover new appreciation for the past, present, and potential future of your surroundings.
Every town has a history but do you really know about the people that were part of establishing the area? I grew up and have lived in Greensboro, North Carolina most of my life and felt I had an above-average appreciation for the city’s history. Recently, I learned of some of the people interred in an historic cemetery. Lunsford P. Richardson, II, co-founder of Richardson-Vick’s Chemical Company and creator of Vapo-Rub is there along with many other movers and shakers.
Just 20 minutes down the road is
Replacements, Inc., a business that started out as a hobby has turned into a multi-million dollar industry. With the world’s largest selection of old and new dinnerware, Replacements collects china, crystal and other items for resale. They offer tours and even have a showcase displaying pieces ordered by well-known entertainers.
Historic reenactments, villages, museums, crafters, art shows and more are plentiful and all just minutes away.
I recently went to Richmond, Virginia and traveled down
Monument Avenue which is a National Historic Landmark. It wasn’t until I saw the monument of Arthur Ashe that I realized he was from Richmond.
With a little research, you can find the special treasures in your own hometown. Visit your local Chamber of Commerce or Travel and Tourism websites. Also visit your state’s travel and tourism
