Library holds hidden treasures

When I grew up, going to the library was one of my favorite pastimes. I could disappear between the pages of a book and discover new places or ideas. I started taking my own children when they were very small, listening to story time, participating in programs and letting them explore their own interests.
Today’s libraries are still a treasure chest of information, resources and discoveries. Consider spending time there for yourself or with the family and see what your local branch has to offer.
- Students can find career guidance, job search information, college preparation materials, and homework assistance.
- Most libraries offer art exhibits, special speakers, and other programs.
- Library book sales offer the best bargains on all genres.
- Offer your own free time as a volunteer at the library.
- E-books, games and other materials for kids are frequently available through the library’s online resources.
- Local libraries often have the area schools’ reading lists on hand.
- Grown-ups can take time out and participate in book clubs or reading groups.
- Don’t forget there are magazines, newspapers, CDs, DVDs, videos, and other media at the library. I used to check out travel games and tapes for my kids to keep busy on car trips.
- Public computers offer internet access and provide a location for typing documents or papers.
The best thing about libraries is they are FREE! In today’s economy, we can use all the bargains available to us! Enjoy new and re-discovered treasures today!
