Recreation trends in 2008

Recreation has different meanings for every person. “Recreating recreation” discusses some of the possible programs offered at centers. Facilities generally offer programs based on previous popularity, requests from users, or as a way to introduce new trends.
In my posts here, I have done the same thing using my experiences; yet I know there is more to explore. In considering the “year in review,” I decided to look back at what people actually want.
One way to do this is to look at search engine trends because information sought is information wanted.
The following is a list of the top 10 recreation search trends in the United States according to Google Insights. The top three searches within each trend are also listed.

1. Fishing - fishing reports, fly fishing, bass fishing
2. Horse - horses, horse sale, horse for sale, horse riding
3. Boat - boats, fishing boat, fishing
4. Boats - boats for sale, used boats, fishing boats
5. Bikes -  bike,trek bikes, trek
6. Marathon - half marathon, marathon trainingBoston marathon
7. Patterns - Free patterns, knitting patterns, knitting (followed by crochet, sewing and quilt patterns)
8. Paintball - paintball guns, paintball gun, Spyder paintball, (also Spyder, Tippmann paintball)
9. Guns - airsoft guns, airsoft, gun also paintball guns, air guns, bb guns
10. Camping - camping world, RV camping, camping tent

As with most annual reviews, I consider looking back as a great opportunity to plan ahead. Let me know your interests and I’ll do the research! In the meantime, I’ll be putting more up about popular interests as well as introducing readers to new topics. Whatever your interest, keep moving for a happpy 2009!
