Getting the family together, active and outdoors can be a challenge.
- Get a lightweight ball and kick it around. A bit different than throwing, yet kids of all ages can handle the task.
- Grab your digital camera and tell the kids to get silly. Take pictures of the outdoor fun and share with others.
- Dollar stores and other discount shops are great places to find a variety of outdoor toys. My favorite is called "Hairball Flying Disk" and is a rubbery disk with short tentacles around the outer edge. So flexible it literally folds or can be balled up yet when thrown, flies easily. The same maker has balls and cylinders - all easy to throw and easy to catch - and look like sea anemone. I found them at Dollar Tree but if you can find the exact item, you can easily find something similar.
- Have a scavenger hunt. No need to collect items, just find them in nature! Look for things that begin with each letter of the alphabet or that match colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet - Roy G Biv).
- Pick up some sidewalk chalk and play hopscotch. Bend the rules for younger players.
- Use ping pong balls, clothespins or beanbags and toss them into a basket or plastic tub.
- Blow bubbles! Inexpensive to purchase or make your own for fun any time of the year.
- Make paper hats. Use old newspaper and create fun wearables.
Regardless of the activity chosen, have fun creating great memories for your family!
