As Veteran’s Day approaches on Nov. 11, we are reminded of enlisted personnel, past and present, who have served our nation well. In preparation for this upcoming holiday, I have a list of things you can do to participate and learn more.

  • Check with city and county government offices regarding special programs and services at your local Veteran’s Park.
  • The Army Corp has waived recreation area fees on Tuesday for Veterans, service personnel, and their families. Day use, ramp and swimming fees are waived. Visit their website for details.
  • Recreation fees will be waived at lands managed by the US Forest Service, the National Park Service and other federal agencies.
  • Get the kids involved and work on a craft
  • The Veteran’s Administration has a site just for kids  and another with general information
  • Look for a parade in your area
  • Spend a minute watching a special tribute to veterans
  • Email our troops
  • America Supports You is a Department of Defense program and provides links and information on a multitude of ways to support our troops at war. Ways to provide care packages, entertainment, gift certificates, frequent flyer miles, help for families and more are listed.
  • Check local listings for movies and specials on television.
