Unless your living under a rock, you know that Jay Sean is at the top of the charts with hit singles like "Down" and "Written on her". In this exclusive interview, Jay opens up about his inspiration, his love to for music, and his fitness regimen.

Have you always wanted to be an entertainer?

Yes, I was always putting on shows for the family and singing along with my cassettes and records at full volume! I was always a showman. :)

What is it that you love most about performing?

I love connecting with my audience, and I love singing songs that I write and have a meaning to me. Its fun, but its also like therapy! I mean I get to sing about love and pain and all sorts of things. The best feeling is when I've written something and other people love it. That means a lot to me.

What is your fitness regimen?

I hit the gym hard. Heavy weights and cardio. I don't have a naturally cut physique, so I have to work extra hard at it. I also eat very healthy. Although I have a really bad sweet tooth I have to keep the junk to a minimum but I guess its worth it!

Where does the inspiration for your music come from?

Well I think the obvious answer to this is my inspiration comes from God. But in normal every day life I find inspiration as well. From the people I meet, my family, the women I've loved..all of that.

Where does your influence come from?

Well, I'm heavily influenced by Boys 2 Men, Jodecei, Ne-Yo, Justin Timberlake and Craig David. I love the great singers, I used to just sit and study the riffs, line by line.

Who are some of your favorite artists right now?

Justin Timberlake is great, Ne-Yo writes amazing songs, they just get me every time. I like Beyonce a lot too. Alicia Keys blew me away in concert the other week. We were in Vegas and I was opening for Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys....and she just tore the house down. Vocals, piano, songs, and arrangements... she's just great.

What was your reaction the first time your songs reached #1?

Maaaan...I was like "you've kidding me right?" Then I got a call from Slim and we just laughed on the phone together. Like real laughter man. It felt so good to finally have achieved something I wanted for so many years.

Do you have a message you'd like to send to your fans?

Listen everyone, I am so grateful and humbled by your support. This last year has been a dream come true and I look forward to bringing you more good music!
