On tonight's episode of Melrose Place, Jessica Lucas' Riley is the main event, and the episode is all centered around beauty and modeling! With her character being pushed to the limits by returning original cast member, Daphne Zuniga, the fate of Riley's modeling career will be tested. In this exclusive interview, Jessica talks about her beauty regimen, her character Riley, and her opinion of societies view on beauty.
What is your daily beauty regimen?
Jessica: My beauty regimen takes place at night. I always make sure I take all of my makeup off, and I use Biore Deep Pore Cleansing Facial Cloths to remove all of the makeup that I wear on set. Then I use a 3-step system by Aromatherapy Associates that you can buy online. I use the Rose Cleanser, Rose Toner and Triple Rose Moisturizer and I swear by it. It makes my skin amazing. Other than that, I exfoliate. I use the Clean ad Clear Deep Pore Cleanser and I always, always, always put on lotion after I take a shower. I use St. Ives Cucumber Melon Lotion. I usually shower in the morning and throw on minimal makeup and that’s about it.
Is it any different when filming?
Jessica: I get much more aggressive with taking my makeup off when I’m working because I wear so much more. But, I also don’t have to worry about getting myself ready in the morning when I’m working. I basically roll out of bed, get ready, and go straight to work. So the difference is, is that I do it myself on my days off.
What are your favorite products for hair, skin, makeup?
Jessica: For my hair I use a line from Robert Ramos, it’s called MoMo. It’s a very deep, very intense shampoo and conditioner. My hair gets very dry from all the products they use on set, and having a curling iron in it everyday. After I get out of the shower, since I have naturally curly hair, I put Moroccan Oil in my hair. Their intense curl cream is amazing. I put it in and I just leave it on my hair overnight and let it dry naturally. For makeup, I use a variety of brands. For foundation, I use Armani Luminous Glow Foundation, it’s quite sheer but it matches my skin perfectly. My favorite mascara is L’Oreal, their new collagen mascara is amazing. I have long but very thin lashes, so I find it makes them a lot fuller. I use the darkest black, jet black. My one other favorite line of makeup is called “Cheeky” by Jamie Dewitt. Their cream blushes are great, and you can use them as lip stains as well. The name of the blush I use is "Jamie". It gives the perfect glow but it doesn’t seem like your wearing blush. For my lips, I’m obsessed with lip balm, but if I’m going out at night, I use gloss.
Do you have a never-fail beauty tip?
Jessica: Something my mom taught me is to mix glycerin and rose water together and put it on your face. It makes it really soft. My mom has aged very well and so has my grandmother and that’s what they use. You can put it on your face at any time and it makes it feel very smooth and nice.
Best beauty advice you’ve been given?
Jessica: Wear sunscreen. Especially now, since I’ve been in the sun so much. I’m obsessed with not aging, I don’t ever want to get botox or anything like that, I’m so not into plastic surgery. I think that’s probably the best advice to make sure you don’t get wrinkles.
Worst beauty advice you’ve taken and instantly regretted?
Jessica: If anything, I guess it would be wearing too much makeup, or too intense eye colors. Natural is best. If you get talked into wearing too much makeup, or told that you should be wearing more, your just going against your natural look. And natural is what makes you beautiful.
What is your fitness regimen?
Jessica: I work out 2 times a week with a trainer and we do 30 minutes of cardio and then concentrate on either abs, arms or legs depending on what session I’m doing.
Who is your personal beauty icon?
Jessica: Probably Halle Berry. She always looks flawless and she looks like she hasn’t aged at all. I hope I look like her at that age!
Do you have anything in common with your character on Melrose?
Jessica: I think Riley is me, but just dialed up. She’s got this innocent, sort of naïve, down to earth thing, and I’m definitely very laid back and relaxed, so I think I bring that to her. I think she’s a little more whiney than me and a little bit more insecure than me. And just not as aware of her surroundings.
You have a big episode tonight! Can you tell us a little more about it?
Jessica: I do. And it’s all about modeling and beauty. The whole episode is about Riley. She goes to Malibu to shoot her photo shoot for the denim line and Jo, from the original series, played by Daphne Zuniga, is the photographer. She gets tested, she gets pushed to limits, and gets asked to do something that she’s really not comfortable doing. We’ll see how she responds to it.
If you weren’t acting what would you want to be doing?
Jessica: I have no idea. I’ve been acting so long I cant even fathom doing anything else. I think I would probably want to do something else in the business, whether it be a publicist or a manager, something like that, because I love the business. Or a producer, actually. I’d love to produce something oneday.
Who would you love to work with again?
Jessica: Oh my gosh, so many! Probably J.J Abrams; I think he’s phenomenal. He’s the next Steven Spielberg, in my opinion. If I could do another one of his brilliant creations that he comes up with, I would jump at the chance.
Do you have a message to my readers?
Jessica: For me, the biggest thing is...I’m in this business and I tend to get caught up in what the tabloids and the magazines portray and project as what’s considered beautiful. My biggest advice would be to try and not pay too much attention to it and love yourself for who you are. Be true to yourself and don’t get too wrapped up in all that nonsense.
