Maybe you couldn't make any of the organized events in the Washington area. Maybe today's your off-day, and your training plan demands you skip the day running. Maybe you just want to do something more obvious than just heading out for a run.
Here are a few other suggestions of ways to celebrate National Running Day:
Join a running group. There are loads in the Washington area, and running with a group of dedicated training partners can help take your training to the next level.
Sign up for a race. Whether it's your first 5K or your next marathon, signing up for a race can give you new motivation to train. This Web site offers a sampling of some of the best races in the Washington area -- check them out!
Mix things up. Run on the trails if you usually pound the pavement. If your typical run takes you off-road, try an urban route that spotlights the best of our beautiful city. Bring Metro fare for a point-to-point run.
Volunteer at a road-race. Click here to find out why, or for tips on how to get involved. DC Capital Striders is is looking for a few good men and women to man some upcoming races.
Get involved with a charity that benefits runners, like Washington-based Girls Gotta Run and Philadelphia-based Back on My Feet, which hopes to establish a program in Washington in the next several months.
