It's Tuesday morning, and I'm already looking forward to running with the Pacers Silver Spring's fun run group this evening. The group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the store on Fenton Street, and welcomes runners of all pace groups and running backgrounds. Come join us tonight if you're free -- we'll be doing the awesome-looking trail run through Rock Creek Park.
Running groups are a great way to meet fellow runners, find training partners, learn how to pace yourself and learn how to push yourself on training runs in a way you just wouldn't running alone.
Rick Amernick, head organizer of the DC Capital Striders Running Group, contacted me to let me know about some of the cool things his group, which is free and boasts more than 1,300 members, has going on. The DC Capital Striders organizes group runs, races, running clinics and other neat stuff throughout the Washington metropolitan area. It also offers opportunities for runners to give back by volunteering for races in the area (for current volunteer opportunities, check the calendar on the group's Web site ).
Among the cool events coming up: the DC Capital Striders 8K in Georgetown on May 30. It's a flat, fast course on the Capital Crescent Trail, and the signup fee is only $10 until May 27 (it goes up to $20 after that). I'll definitely be adding this to my race calendar.
