Carol Blessing of Green Bamboo in Boonsboro, MD

When Carol Blessing left her employer to launch her own skin care business – she was ready for the highs and the lows. But since launching Green Bamboo Quality Skin Care in Boonsboro, Maryland – she has only had highs. She credits picking a smart location since after signing her lease she learned that best-selling author Nora Roberts was opening a Bed & Breakfast on the same block  – but more than that she credits her attitude, energy and endless belief in who she is and what she brings to her customers.

Below are her reflections on the steps she took and the checklist she recommends for others who plan to branch out on their own after many years with an employer:

Maintain a boundless passion for what you do

Exude excitement & satisfaction every day

Sustain a positive attitude & vision

Try new things & integrate them into your practice

Seek out free, local sources of advertising (newspapers, magazines)

Out-service the competition

Shamelessly distribute your business cards

Pursue continuing education -- never stop learning

Develop great technical skills & execute them diligently

Give more than is expected & do so cheerfully

Identify opportunities that may be lacking in your current industry arena & develop that expertise

Listen & respond to client's needs

Create an interesting & informative web site

In addition to the above tips, as a skin care specialist, Carol Blessing says it is important to not just “be good” at what you do but to “look good” too.  Below are her top tips for every entrepreneur, executive or employee to maintain a healthy glow:

Drink plenty of liquids -- water, anti-oxidant rich teas & juices

Stay out of the sun & tanning places & use sunscreen

Be consistent with daily home care regimes -- day & night cleansing, rinsing well & moisturinzing with professional skin care products that contain anti oxidant ingredients

Schedule regular professional skin care treatments, which provide a deep cleanse, exfoliation, nourishment to the skin, strengthening to muscle fibers, a healthy glow & much needed pampering & relaxation

Eat well to enhance overall health

Exercise to energize the mind & body

Focus on the good things in your life & be grateful -- you are what you think you are!
