NOTE: Below has been updated based on current news link.

The Binghamton shootings left 13 dead and 4 critically injured by a gunman who began firing at approximately 10:30am this morning (4/3) inside the downtown Binghamton, NY American Civic Association building. He later shot himself bringing the total dead count up to 14. According to officials, the alleged shooter, Jiverly Wong, barricaded the back door with the car he was driving and entered firing through the front door. The detailed timeline, facts of the story and eye witness reports are still unfolding and this will continue to be an ongoing breaking news story for many days to come in most of the media.

Similar to the tragic terrorist attacks in Mumbai creating 24/7 wall-to-wall breaking news coverage -- PR pros should stay out of it. During this tragic time, the continuous coverage is deserving for the victims, the survivors, the families and friends directly impacted, and the heroes who were involved. For the rest of us, the news is a healer as we try to make sense of the senseless and struggle to comprehend the evils in the world.
