Deep Creek Lake is one of the most popular four-season resorts in the mid-Atlantic. A mere 2 hours from Pittsburgh and most of Maryland, WV, Washington, DC and Baltimore -- the western Maryland town is home to breath-taking mountains, a gorgous lake with 65-miles of shoreline for swimming, boating and fishing and over 132 acres of ski terrain . Deep Creek Lake has become both a favorite second home community and convenient and fun vacation rental spot to thousands. The Adventure Sports Center International, which sits on the top of the mountain, is the world renowned whitewater course offering beginner and advanced activities. It is so special it was host to multiple events including th 2008 U.S. National Whitewater Slalom Championships and 2008 Canoe and Kayak World Series American Open.

So when Skip Case, Executive Director of the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival, launched his summer concert subscription series, he knew it would be a success.  “When people are on vacation they want to relax and escape the pressures of day to day life. After the sun goes down – there is nothing more soothing than a high quality concert or dance performance.”   The 2009 GLAF subscription series runs April thru July with performances that will include two nights of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Beatlemania Now and the Dave Leonhardt Jazz Group and Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers – something for everyone!. “Our season subscription patrons receive preferred seating for all the concerts at the Wisp Resort. This benefit has been attractive to our customers.”

Skip Case says that other resort communities can be successful launching similar programs if they promote effectively. Below are his best ways to attract the most visitors and residents to support their vacation-town arts:programs:

1)  Send a monthly electronic newsletter
2)  Maintaining a website
3)  Get featured on the local community blog
4)  Write articles and send press releases to all area newspapers
5)  Distribute brochures
6)  Speak to local civic groups to build awareness for full-time residents
7)  Collaborate with other arts groups
8)  Secure sponsors to support either financially or trade agreement
