Obama considers Hillary: PR gone awry

What has happened to the Obama PR machine? Why have we spent close to two weeks with Hillary and Bill Clinton back on the front pages? Will President-elect Obama ask her to become Secretary of State? Will she accept? Will Bill’s fundraising be a conflict or any of his global relationships?

Senator Hillary Clinton might be a superb Secretary of State --- but that important fact has gotten lost in the bizarre process in which they seemed to have lost control. The twists and turns and oohs and aahs of the speculation haven’t served to promote her potential value but instead has exposed the Obama team's lack of experience.

Yet the campaign was virtually flawless. He stayed on message and moved rapidly yet respectfully to the finish line. So, why are they now stumbling on home base with the Clinton off and on again situation. Vetting her (actually him) shouldn’t be so public, so noisy or so intrusive on the promise of the Obama Presidency. Do they not remember that news involving the Clintons is predestined to overflow, erupt and engulf?

Will he or won’t he? Will she or won’t she? The Obama election to the Presidency is historic and yet we have so quickly moved from him to her. The Obama transition team needs to take a page out of the Obama campaign team and remember to not just stay on message but keep control of the message!
