You just can't believe everything you read.
If you could, Fred Claus would indeed be "entirely watchable". And Kanye West would actually be dead.
Alas, though, some things you hear are just rumors.
Which is why it can now be officially reported that Lucasfilm is not (not!) in the process of developing Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII, and IX (in 3D, no less!). And when you think about it, it was really about as believable as the rumor that Obama won't have a little baby Jesus ornament on his Christmas tree this year.
Now...rumors of the sequel trilogy have been around for well onto 20 years now, and the latest, courtesy of MarketSaw, relied on a 'trusted source' and a 'source who should know'. Well, since the source's first name wasn't George and his last name wasn't Lucas, the report held about as much water as did the rumor that Mikey was killed ingesting Pop Rocks and Coca-Cola.
Aside from the Lucasfilm statement, there was actually proof right there in the MarketSaw post that this was just a bunch of hooey: "A lot depends on the success of AVATAR this winter - if it takes off like everyone is expecting it to, then you will most likely see three additional STAR WARS movies added."
Um, OK... and, if you could, please refresh my memory as to the last time George Lucas didn't do exactly what he wanted to when he wanted to? Seems about as plausible as that rumor of Elvis' 17yo grandkid signing a record deal.
Sure, it would be nice to keep the ol' franchise going (and no, The Clone Wars doesn't count), but seriously... the first (and only) time we hear about this was on MarketSaw? (No offense.)
TheForce.net (which sometimes knows what Lucas is thinking before Lucas thinks it) had already been quick to react: "I wouldn't hold your breath." And in case you're wondering, Lucasfilm (according to Ain't It Cool News) said: "We do not have any Star Wars theatrical movies planned."
See? About as reliable as the rumor that Lucas knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote that line about the Millennium Falcon being able to make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs..jpg)
